Fulton County Detention Center Building
The current facility opened in December 2013. USDA says the old jail was more than 30 years old, designed for only seven inmates, and constantly overcrowded. The old building could not house high-risk inmates and had problems with staff observation, intake, booking, release, security perimeter definition, visitation compliance, 911 dispatch security, and health, safety, and ADA compliance.
The replacement project used a $1.7 million ARRA loan and a $300,000 ARRA grant through USDA Rural Development. USDA listed about 6,500 square feet, a central control room, three holding cells, booking and intake, kitchen, laundry, medical and multipurpose area, exercise space, secure prisoner loading center or sallyport, eight offices, reception area, lobby, and 911 dispatch.
